Rolex 1665 Double Red Seadweller Mk4

The Rolex Double Red Sea-Dweller (DRSD) stands as the pinnacle of Rolex’s professional dive watch engineering. Developed in collaboration with the famed French deep-sea company COMEX, it was created to withstand the ocean’s most extreme depths and became the first Rolex reference to feature a Helium Escape Valve (HEV), enabling trapped gases to safely release during decompression. Many collectors regard the ref. 1665 as an even more deliberate and robust evolution beyond the Submariner. Today, the DRSD remains an essential cornerstone of any serious vintage Rolex collection—instantly identifiable by its iconic double red lines of text.

This extraordinary example, featuring a Mk4 dial, is among the finest we’ve encountered in years. As the final dial variant of the DRSD, the Mk4 is distinguished by its crisp, slightly wider coronet. The 4.08m serial case remains unpolished, preserving its original factory lines, bevels, and impeccable contours. The dial is flawless, exhibiting a beautiful, even buttermilk patina that enhances its vintage allure.

Powering the watch is its original, pristine Caliber 1570 movement, accompanied by its original 93150/585 bracelet dated 1/76, which remains solid and consistent with the watch’s untouched condition. Clearly, this diver spent little to no time in the water.

Without question, this is one of the nicest DRSDs we’ve had the privilege to handle in a very long time — a truly exceptional, all-original example that would serve as a centerpiece in even the most discerning Rolex collection.
