Rolex 6239 Daytona “Paul Newman”

Ever since Paul Newman’s Newman came to market in 2017, the name, Paul Newman, in to watch world is less synonymous to the award-winning actor or your favorite salad dressing but rather to the vintage Daytona. For many, it is not just their holy grail but it’s also become a cultural icon. It is arguably one of the most recognizable wristwatch designs ever.

Fresh to market and like Paul Newman himself, the original owner who resided in Southern California all his life kept this piece close to his skin whatever he did including skiing avidly with it on. Other than also building an incredibly successful career and how much he had achieved, astonishingly his very own Newman Daytona remained in such magnificent condition.

We are truly excited to present this 6239 Paul Newman, the very same reference that was worn by Paul himself, and a truly spectacular example at that.

Exceptionally well preserved, it stands among the finest examples to appear on the market in recent years. The untouched dial and hands remain absolutely unmarked and display one of the most vivid dials I have personally encountered. Not all Newman dials have aged alike—many have lost their original brightness—but here the red printing remains strikingly vibrant, just as it would have appeared when it left the factory. The watch is housed in an unpolished 1.98 million-serial case, and the bezel retains its crisp, sharp edges.

Powering the watch is the legendary Valjoux 72 movement. It is further complemented by its original Rolex US made JB Champion Jubilee bracelet fitted with 49 end links.

While finding a Newman Daytona is not impossible today, discovering a fresh-to-market Rolex Daytona reference 6239 in such superlative condition is an altogether different matter. Collectors may spend years searching for an example like this. As collections mature, a Newman often becomes an essential cornerstone. And as the market continues to absorb the finest surviving examples, opportunities to acquire exceptional Newmans such as this will only become increasingly scarce.
