Rolex 1680 Red Submariner Mk1 “Long F”
To the untrained eye, it’s just a Red Submariner. And while the Red Sub isn’t exactly rare in general, this particular example is an exception of the highest order. This is a Mk1 dial variant—the very first, rarest, and most coveted execution of the 1680 Red Submariner, a cult classic in the world of vintage Rolex. For seasoned collectors, the difference between good and truly exceptional lies in the details—and this one delivers in every regard.
Produced for a brief window in 1969, the Mk1 “Long F” dial is distinguished by its depth rating typography—where the “F” in “FEET” stretches over the “T”—a subtle detail only found in the earliest production.
Most surviving examples have seen heavy use, but this piece remains exceedingly well-preserved: its unpolished 2.1m serial case retains sharp factory lines, the dial's creamy tritium lume is perfectly matched to the handset, and it’s fitted with a period-correct 3/69 7206 rivet bracelet with 80 end links. An intriguing “75505” engraving remains legible on the caseback, possibly a factory or retailer mark. This isn’t just a Red Sub—it’s a best-in-class, reference-grade watch destined for the top of any serious collection.
This illustrious example resided in a European collection for the past number of years before moving to enter our collection. This isn’t just a Red Sub—it’s a best-in-class, reference-grade watch destined for the top of any serious collection.
