Rolex 1675 GMT-Master Zinc Sulfide “Fuchsia”
Developed in close collaboration with Pan-Am for its pilots, the GMT-Master was engineered as a professional tool capable of displaying both local time and home base time simultaneously. Over the past seven decades, it has evolved far beyond its original purpose to become one of Rolex’s most celebrated and collectible sports models.
This particular example showcases several highly distinctive characteristics found only on the very earliest “transitional” matte dial GMTs from the gilt era. Unlike the later flat waffle luminous typically seen, this watch retains its original puffier Zinc Sulfide luminous compound, which emits a vivid glow under UV light and was used only during this brief production period. These earliest examples are further distinguished by their thinner case profile and smaller 24-hour hand, details that underline their importance among collectors.
A beautifully preserved and remarkably fresh example, this watch perfectly captures the charm of the earliest matte dial GMT-Masters. Completing the package is its naturally faded fuchsia bezel insert, adding a striking layer of personality and visual warmth to an already charismatic watch. The 1.67m serial case shows only light wear consistent with nearly six decades of age while still retaining strong, unpolished facets and original finishing. The dial remains in flawless condition, with only minimal lume degradation visible on the seconds hand, all while maintaining a perfectly even patina throughout.
The watch is powered by its original Caliber 1570 movement and paired with a Rolex C&I rivet bracelet
These early Zinc Sulfide GMT-Masters are among the rarest matte dial variants produced, as this transitional configuration existed for only a very short period. Combined with the highly desirable fuchsia insert, this example represents an exceptionally compelling and historically important iteration of an already revered model.
